Just a quick message to the artists in the LACDA show. Yes, I know the images were not mounted and/or framed. You hear the old saying, “Never complain, never explain,” but I thought a little explanation might be in order here.
This is still very much an underground artistic movement. Over the past two-and-a-half years, I have never wavered in my belief in the validity of the medium, nor in the pioneering artists nor their work. Not for a second. It is what keeps me going.
The prints at the LACDA show are of the highest archival quality, premium Epson papers and 200-year giclée inks. They measure 36″x44″ and comprise the first large-format exhibition of iphonic art ever. Another Pixels first. I doubt very few artists would be able to afford another $200-300 to frame their pictures. So, to any of you who were wondering about the lack of framing/mounting for this particular show, I recorded my thoughts.
On another note, I got an email from someone yesterday who suggested that I would countenance a kind of disrespect for the artists in a certain situation. This rankled, hence a word about just one of the battles that have been fought along the way. Also, a word on art bureaucrats and a reminder of the opportunity for all of us that the lynch-mob destroyed last November. So a little about that, as well.
To innocent passers-by who are simply here to enjoy the art: just know that the iphonic art movement is filled with as much drama and passion and strange characters as any art movement in history. Please enjoy the work!
In case anyone missed it, here is a link to a quick walk-through of the show. What an amazing collection. Thanks, all.
Knox, thanks so much for posting this video! I wasn’t able to see it for myself, so this was a lovely treat. I’m not sure if you took it yourself, but if you didn’t, thank you to the person that did! As well – as David mentioned above – a big thanks for all your efforts in making these events happen and bringing this medium and our work to the surface of the art world, it’s so very appreciated.
Thanks, David. Well, I would love for the images to be framed as well! That said, everyone who has been to the show has said the prints look simply fantastic.
And I agree with you about the artists on this site. We are at a new level now.
Seems like there is a lot of people in the art world, artist and critics alike that still don’t get it: It’s the image stupid, it’s the image. I commend your efforts for bring iphoneography to the forefront where it belongs. I have experienced through your web site and other related activities wonderful artist doing great art. Thanks.
