A Crazed Girl
THAT crazed girl improvising her music.
Her poetry, dancing upon the shore,Her soul in division from itself
Climbing, falling She knew not where,
Hiding amid the cargo of a steamship,
Her knee-cap broken, that girl I declare
A beautiful lofty thing, or a thing
Heroically lost, heroically found. No matter what disaster occurred
She stood in desperate music wound,
Wound, wound, and she made in her triumph
Where the bales and the baskets lay
No common intelligible sound
But sang, ‘O sea-starved, hungry sea.’—William Butler Yeats
I love Ashley’s reference to the painting, Christina’s World, by Andrew Wyeth. Also the bleached sand, the undulating strip of sea, and the fluffly clouds and the gradated blue sky.
Blue by Joni Mitchell
Blue songs are like tattoos
You know I’ve been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey Blue, here is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well there’re so many sinking now
You’ve got to keep thinking
You can make it thru these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs lots of laughs
Everybody’s saying that hell’s the hippest way to go
Well I don’t think so
But I’m gonna take a look around it though
Blue I love youBlue here is a shell for you
Inside you’ll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me
