Andrea Koerner ~ Lady in White

Andrea Koerner ~ Lady in White

I had finally found, after much looking, a decent Bob Dylan version of “Girl From The North Country” on Youtube & was going to use it with this picture, but I went there tonight & it has been removed! For whatever reason, there is virtually NO Bob Dylan himself on Youtube. If someone puts something up, it doesn’t last long.

So I found this perfectly charming replacement. It doesn’t have the haunting, other-worldly, and desperately romantic underpinnings that Dylan’s original version on “Freewheeling Bob Dylan,” his second album, has. (I encourage you to find the Dylan—Freewheeling NOT Nashville Skyline—version on iTunes & buy it. Mr. Zimmerman was wandering through Neruda territory with this one.)

But it’s Keith Richards, and Keith always comes through.

Girl From The North Country as performed by Keith Richards

If you’re traveling the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
For she once was a true love of mine.

If you go when the snowflakes storm
When the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see if she has a coat so warm
To keep her from the howlin’ winds.

Please see if her hair hangs long
If it rolls and flows all down her breast
Please see for me if her hair’s hanging long
For that’s the way I remember her best.

I’m a-wonderin’ if she remembers me at all
Many times I’ve often prayed
In the darkness of my night
In the brightness of my day.

So if you’re travelin’ the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was the true love of mine.
