Luba Luft ~ Horses Just Want To Have Fun

Luba Luft ~ Horses Just Want To Have Fun

I admit it. I am the president of the Luba Luft fan club. I love her strange, funny, unsettling images. Her email address is ubik.ubik@somewhere … Ubik was a novel by Philip K. Dick, one of my favorite writers. I wrote her and asked her one time if her email was a reference to the book. She said yes, so extra cool points for that.

And, of course, Luba Luft was the Nexus-6 Replicant exotic dancer at Taffey’s Bar in Dick’s book, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, aka Bladerunner.

As far as this picture goes, I’m just at a loss for words. It is at once hilarious and horrific, beautifully conceived and realized, down to the horses’ shadows on the ground. Perfect apping. Amazing.

Philip K. Dick’s former wife Tessa remarked that “Ubik is a metaphor for God. Ubik is all-powerful and all-knowing, and Ubik is everywhere. The spray can [Ubik brand, found everywhere, i.e., ubiquitous] is only a form that Ubik takes to make it easy for people to understand it and use it. It is not the substance inside the can that helps them, but rather their faith in the promise that it will help them.”

And we all need help in the onslaught of The Overload.
