Where do you live?
I grew up in the city of Chicago but for the past 35 plus years live in a small town North Barrington, roughly 40 miles from Chicago. I like Chicago but country living is good for me.
What kind of art were you doing before the iPhone?
I started taking nature photography classes when I lost my job in 2001. Loved photographing everything in nature, so big girl camera was my 1st journey into anything artsy.
Can you tell us what happened when you first started shooting pictures with your iPhone?
I think I started with a 4 or 4s? Wasn’t even thinking about taking pics with the phone but a photo friend of mine showed me some apps and what he had done, I was hooked. Right then and there had to learn everything I could about this new passion.
Were you active on Flickr as iPhone usage exploded? Who were the first iPhoneographers/artists who caught your eye?
Never was that active on Flickr.
What or who else inspires you? Painters? Photographers? Other plastic arts? Music? Literature?
Mostly photographers inspire me and when I am out in a natural area. Love looking a many iphone photographers to see how they create but I also follow Brooke Shaden(big girl camera) she inspires me to go and try something different.
What are your go-to apps?
Lightroom, Snapseed, to start out with.
If you had to choose three creatures, real or imaginary, to be your personal totem pole, what would they be?
How many times have you fallen asleep with the phone in your hand while apping a picture?
Honestly Never. But when I read I fall asleep with my iPad in my hands.
Cats or dogs?
Like both. At there moment have 2 feral cats that live outside. they take care of me by catching mice and chipmunks and I give them shelter and food.
Beatles, Stones, or Dylan?
Beatles and Stones
Has there been any surprising impact on your life from the iPhone, something you didn’t expect?
How drawn I am to taking pics on the iPhone. I have a very nice big girl camera which just sits there. 90% of the time, its the iPhone snapping away.
Do you have a mantra for daytime? For nighttime? For anytime?
Anytime: you are not your body or mind. You are a higher being.
Thank you, Irene.
I posted galleries of Irene’s work in July of 2017. Below is a small sampling of her mystical and ethereal work.
