Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn’t tell what o’clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that’s because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.
(I just sent this out to all P1xels subscribers as a newsletter, so if you received it and read, feel free to skip!)
I am writing for a few reasons.
First off, I want to thank you all for participating in and contributing to P1xels—The Art of the iPhone over the past three+ years.
It is hard to believe that it’s been that long since we launched the site and did the first iphonic art gallery show ever. Sometimes it seems like the blink of an eye. Other times, a decade.
It has been an adventure: we had no idea what we were getting into when we fell down the rabbit hole.
Thanks to you, P1xels remains the site of record for the global iphonic art movement and iphone photography.
The art you send in continues to amaze me on a daily basis (and I’ve looked about one hundred thousand images at this point, so it is not that easy to impress me anymore!).
Traffic continues to climb, without any promotion on our part, and that is most gratifying. One of these days, we’ll actually do some promotion.
P1xels keeps attracting new talent and that is always a joy as well. Welcome, everybody.
If you are interested, here is the video of my talk at Macworld about the history P1xels: http://www.pixelsatanexhibition.com/video/video-the-secret-true-history-of-p1xels-the-art-of-the-iphone-at-macworld/ — you have been and continue to be an essential part of this wonderful story. Yes, I know I say “uhh” too much. I had no prepared speech and I had had a lot of coffee.
Herewith, the aforementioned news:
1. New Magazine, iPhotographer, for iPad/Apple Newsstand
I have partnered with Petr Palan of Fast Track Magazines to produce a digital magazine, iPhotographer, which will be published for iPad and will be available on the Apple Newsstand in April. This will be a consumer-friendly magazine aimed at everyday iPhoneographers looking to improve their work and enjoy capturing and sharing the moments of their lives. Each issue will be full of tips, tricks, articles, features, galleries, and so on. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I hope you’ll be part of it too!
iPhotographer Magazine is a separate entity from P1xels, so I will be encouraging you to go to the new site and register, subscribe to the newsletter, etc. And I will be posting news on P1xels as well about things related to the P1xels community and our art.
We have lined up some great talent and articles, but there is always room for more. If you want to get involved, write me at firstname.lastname@example.org and share your ideas.
2. App Tips & Tricks Monthly Contest
We’d like to have a monthly feature of user tips/tricks for photo/art apps and we would like YOU to contribute. If you have a technique for any photo/video app that you would like to share with everybody, we’d like to hear about it! Each month we will publish a dozen or so and the person creating the best tip of the month will get a prize: the first couple of months, the prize will be a custom limited-edition iPhone5 case from Griffin Technologies, with a design by P1xels Artist Rudy Vogel. His designs can be found here. http://store.griffintechnology.com/griffin-designer-series/rudy-vogel
Please email your tips to email@example.com—they should be short, a couple sentences, a screenshot or two & also a sample before and after image/video.
You can of course add short voice or video sequence with explanations, because the magazine will be very interactive and media-rich. Also, a little headshot & short bio & link to whatever you want so we know where to send credits. Soon, because we are trying to put the first issue to bed and want your tips in it! The deadline is April 5.
3. Events, shows, free calendar listings for magazine and website
Now: urgent and important – If you have a show, conference, exhibition, class, call for submissions, webinar, or any event that is iphone photography related, please send us this information, so that we may post on both our website and in the magazine. This is free of course! Send listings to EventsToPromote@iPhotographermag.com and be sure to include all pertinent info, as well as any graphics. Also if you know about anyone who does have something to promote, just forward them this message.
As always, I will continue to post your event announcements, etc., on P1xels as well, but be sure to send to me at P1xels as you have in the past.
4. Monthly Photo Competitions for iPhotographer magazine
With iPhotographer we will be announcing monthly photo (and video) competitions shortly. With great prizes, of course! Stay tuned and help us drive participation! (We will announce on P1xels and elsewhere.)
5. The new P1xels site
Expecting to have retina display and user profiles on the P1xels site before too long.
Alright, that’s enough for today!
Keep shooting and keep those great pictures coming! And be sure to send in your tips/tricks and event listings!
