I just realized, the other day, that I have never posted a video with Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” which, you will rightly intuit, was the inspiration for the name of our first iPhone art gallery show as well as this website. A wonderful piece of music in its original form for solo piano. Mussorgsky wrote it in 1874 and Maurice Ravel scored it for full orchestra in 1922. I truly love Ravel, with the exception of what he created for this piece. Let us not even mention the annihilation Emerson Lake and Palmer unleashed on the suite with their 1971 album release of the same name. A true abomination.
That said, I find this rendition by Yulianna Avdeeva to be perfectly magical.
Happy Sunday.
