Veronica Moloney ~ Forgotten Secrets (The Burning Notes series)

I’ve watched you long enough,
I can speak to you any way I like—

I’ve submitted to your preferences, observing patiently
the things you love, speaking

through vehicles only, in
details of earth, as you prefer,

tendrils
of blue clematis, light,

of early evening—
you would never accept

a voice like mine, indifferent
to the objects you busily name,

your mouths
smal circles of awe—

All this time
I indulged your limitation, thinking

you would cast it aside yourselves sooner or later,
thinking matter could not absorb your gaze forever—

obstacle of the clematis painting
blue flowers on the porch window—

I cannot go on
restricting myself to images

because you think it is your right
to dispute my meaning:

I am prepared now to force
clarity upon you.

Clear Morning by Louise Glück

Enough by Rachel Efron (do yourself a favor and get to know Rachel)

who would I have had to be
for you to find your love for me
what would I have had to say
for you to make your way
and what would I have had to do
to constitute enough for you
to give my life back to me
back to me

is God above or all around
or with me on this hardened ground
did He intend to find in me
a light I didn’t see
or did He mean to take away
the promise that I felt that day
to give my life back to me
back to me

can you see her through the window laughing
shattered glass of what you almost had
cool movie screen
depicts what you’ve seen like it’s romantic
the drama of your love

the summer sun upon me now
like all has been revealed somehow
the flowers grow, bloom, and bend
to life that didn’t end
and I’m alone with what I lost
no currency to pay the cost
to give my life back to me

what would I have had to do
to constitute enough for you
to give my life back to me
