My father wrote the book, “The Earth Shook, The Sky Burned,” on which this movie was based. As a boy, I used to go to Denver Sutton’s Studio 16 with him in San Francisco’s North Beach and hang out while they worked on the movie. Incidentally, it WAS the first ever movie to utilize the “Ken Burns” effect, panning across and zooming in and out of photos. It should be called the Bronson effect! The movie used to play on the local public TV station a couple times a year. I hadn’t thought about it in decades, but I’m working on my own San Francisco history project and did a search on YouTube, & voilà!

Great photos ! I’ve seen this on KQED from time to time, but long ago, and we always had at least one copy of your father’s book in every place my family lived. Super
