[votd] The Work of Art in the Age of Surveillance Capitalism

From the YouTube page:

I was attracted to making art that lived on social media because it boasted an emancipation of the means of production and as a result, a totally uninhibited method of expression. However, after I started posting I realised the technologies which appeared as laboratory had their own inherent techniques of exercising control. In this video, I attempt to articulate what might be called ‘a critique of the political economy of content creation’ wherein I examine the base of social media as profit-generating for private and corporate owners, and how that shapes the super-structural panoptic algorithm which in turn maintains the base of mass production.
